Sun's Out, Buns Out is a roll out created and hosted by me, Courtney Shove. I have been a fat activist and roller skater for 5 years. I believe that all bodies are valid and deserve love and acceptance, not only in roller skating, but the whole world.
- In 2018 I hosted my first roll out, Powered by Thunder Thighs, a body posi event. I was surprised people showed up and I had so much fun. So many people told me it was their first time wearing a crop top! From there I just new I had to keep it going, but bigger and better.
- In 2019 I started Sun's Out, Buns Out to kick off the summer. I urged people to skate in a bikini or anything that society has told them they shouldn't wear, but have always wanted to. I wanted to create a safe place. I have battled with disordered eating most of my life. I use to think my value could be weighed and measured. Representation that bodies of all sizes can be in movement is extremely important. We had so many people show up. We passed out 176 raffle tickets, but I knew there were more people who joined and I couldn't believe my eyes! We had a raffle at the end and gave away so many amazing prizes from skate businesses.
- 2020- My heart, as all our hearts and lives were shooketh to the core. One good thing was that more skaters were being born every hour. Which made the next year EPIC.
- 2021- I knew something larger than life was about to happen when people slid in my DMs asking about hotels and Airbnbs in Long Beach. I couldn't believe that people were flying out to be part of a roll out. To me it was always more than just a day to skate together, but I was shocked to learn that others saw the importance as well. We had almost 1000 skaters, bladers, skateboarders show up. It was magical. It was like a dream. A sea of skaters
